Pregnancy induced hypertension(PIH), Pre-eclampsia, Eclampsia

Pregnancy-induced hypertension (PIH), pre-eclampsia, and eclampsia are related medical conditions that can affect pregnant women. They are characterized by high blood pressure and are associated with serious complications, especially if left untreated.

Pregnancy-Induced Hypertension (PIH):

  • PIH, also known as gestational hypertension, is a condition in which a pregnant woman develops high blood pressure (hypertension) after 20 weeks of gestation without any other symptoms of organ damage.

Pre-Eclampsia:

  • Pre-eclampsia is a more severe condition that can develop from PIH or occur independently. It typically starts after 20 weeks of pregnancy and is characterized by high blood pressure along with other signs of organ damage.

Eclampsia:

  • Eclampsia is the most severe form of these conditions and is a life-threatening complication of pre-eclampsia. It is characterized by seizures in a pregnant woman who has high blood pressure and other signs of organ damage.
