Ovarian Cysts
Ovarian cysts are fluid-filled sacs that can form on or within the ovaries. They are common and usually benign, often resolving on their own without causing symptoms. However, some cysts can lead to discomfort, pain, or complications.
Considerations:
- Most Are Benign: The majority of ovarian cysts are benign and do not pose a significant health risk.
- Functional Cysts: Functional cysts, such as follicular and corpus luteum cysts, are a normal part of the menstrual cycle and often resolve on their own.
- Complications: While complications are uncommon, certain types of cysts, especially large ones, can lead to complications such as rupture or torsion.
- Fertility: Ovarian cysts, especially those associated with conditions like PCOS, can impact fertility. In some cases, fertility treatments may be considered.
- Postmenopausal Considerations: Ovarian cysts occurring after menopause may require closer monitoring, as the risk of ovarian cancer increases with age.
