Fibroids

Uterine fibroids, also known as leiomyomas or myomas, are noncancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during childbearing years. They are composed of muscle cells and other tissues and can range in size from small and undetectable to large masses that can distort the shape of the uterus.

Considerations:

  • Individualized Treatment: The choice of treatment depends on the size, number, and location of fibroids, as well as the severity of symptoms and the individual's reproductive goals.
  • Fertility Concerns: For women experiencing fertility issues due to fibroids, various treatment options and assisted reproductive technologies (ART) may be considered.
  • Long-Term Outlook: Uterine fibroids are generally benign, and their growth tends to slow down after menopause. However, women approaching menopause may experience symptoms related to fibroids.
  • Regular Monitoring: Regular check-ups and monitoring are important, especially if symptoms change or if there are concerns about the impact on fertility or overall health.
