Mirena Insertion

Mirena is a hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) that is used as a long-term contraceptive method. It is a T-shaped plastic device that is inserted into the uterus to provide birth control for up to five years. Mirena works by releasing a hormone called levonorgestrel, which thickens the cervical mucus and inhibits sperm from reaching and fertilizing the egg.

Advantages of Mirena Insertion:

  • Long-Lasting Contraception: Mirena provides effective contraception for up to five years, and it can be removed at any time if you decide you want to become pregnant or switch to another contraceptive method.
  • Low Hormone Dose: Mirena releases a low and localized dose of the hormone levonorgestrel, which can help reduce side effects associated with hormonal birth control methods.
  • Reversible: Fertility typically returns shortly after Mirena is removed.
  • Convenience: Once Mirena is inserted, you don't need to think about contraception on a daily or monthly basis.
