Cervical Polyp

A cervical polyp is a growth or lump that develops on the cervix, which is the lower part of the uterus that extends into the vagina. These polyps are typically benign (noncancerous) and are often discovered during a pelvic examination.

Considerations:

  • Asymptomatic Nature: Cervical polyps are often discovered incidentally during routine gynecological examinations and may not cause any symptoms.
  • Symptomatic Cases: If an individual experiences abnormal bleeding or other symptoms, it's important to consult with a healthcare provider for a thorough evaluation.
  • Biopsy: In some cases, a biopsy may be performed to rule out the presence of cancerous or precancerous cells within the polyp.
  • Prevention: There are no specific measures to prevent cervical polyps. Regular gynecological examinations and pelvic screenings can help detect and monitor any changes in the cervix.
  • Recurrence: While removal of a cervical polyp is usually a one-time procedure, individuals may develop new polyps in the future. Regular gynecological check-ups can help monitor for any recurrence.
