Hysteroscopy with D & C
Hysteroscopy with D&C, or hysteroscopic dilation and curettage, is a combined diagnostic and therapeutic procedure used to evaluate and treat various gynecological conditions, particularly those affecting the uterine cavity. This procedure involves the use of a hysteroscope, which is a thin, lighted tube with a camera, to examine the inside of the uterus, and a curette to remove abnormal tissue or perform a scraping of the uterine lining.
Advantages of Hysteroscopy with D&C:
- Minimally Invasive: This procedure is generally less invasive than open surgery and often results in shorter recovery times and reduced post-operative pain.
- Accurate Diagnosis: Hysteroscopy provides a direct view of the uterine cavity, allowing for an accurate diagnosis of various uterine conditions.
- Treatment: In cases where abnormalities are identified, such as polyps or fibroids, they can often be removed or treated during the procedure.
- Fertility Assessment: Hysteroscopy can also be used to evaluate the uterine cavity before fertility treatments or procedures.
