Laparoscopic Tubal Ligation

Laparoscopic tubal ligation, also known as laparoscopic sterilization or "having one's tubes tied," is a surgical procedure that permanently prevents pregnancy by blocking or sealing the fallopian tubes. This prevents eggs from moving from the ovaries to the uterus, and sperm from reaching the egg. It is a highly effective method of contraception and is considered a permanent form of birth control.

Advantages of laparoscopic tubal ligation:

  • Highly Effective: Laparoscopic tubal ligation is one of the most effective forms of contraception, with a very low failure rate.
  • Permanent Birth Control: It provides a permanent solution for those who no longer wish to have children.
  • Short Recovery Time: Patients typically recover quickly and can usually resume their normal activities within a few days.
  • Low Risk of Complications: Laparoscopic tubal ligation is associated with a relatively low risk of complications.
  • No Hormonal Side Effects: Unlike some other forms of contraception, laparoscopic tubal ligation doesn't affect hormonal balance or cause side effects like weight gain or mood swings.
