Adenomyosis

Adenomyosis is a medical condition in which the inner lining of the uterus (endometrium) breaks through the muscle wall of the uterus (myometrium). This results in the presence of endometrial tissue within the muscular layer of the uterus, causing the uterus to become enlarged, tender, and often associated with painful menstruation.

Considerations:

  • Individualized Treatment: The choice of treatment depends on the severity of symptoms, the impact on quality of life, and the individual's reproductive goals.
  • Fertility Concerns: Adenomyosis may be associated with infertility or a higher risk of pregnancy complications. However, the relationship between adenomyosis and fertility is complex, and treatment decisions should be made in consultation with a healthcare provider.
  • Postmenopausal Changes: Symptoms of adenomyosis often improve after menopause when hormonal changes naturally occur.
  • Regular Monitoring: Regular follow-up with a healthcare provider is important to assess symptoms and adjust the treatment plan as needed.
